Emily Coats
Counseling Intern
Pronouns: She/her
We all carry wounds, big or small, that shape how we connect with others and navigate the world. Sometimes, these wounds become too heavy to carry alone, and therapy offers a space to lighten that load. I believe therapy is a place for healing through warmth, authentic connection, and collaboration.
Whatever you bring into the therapy space is an honor for me to hold, and I strive to create a safe environment for folks to navigate the many ups and downs of life. I believe authenticity and humor are powerful tools in the healing process, helping to ease tension and create a space for lightness and laughter when appropriate. I typically draw from emotion-focused approaches and am currently completing EMDR training, which can be incorporated into trauma work.
With both professional and lived experience navigating sexuality and gender identity, I particularly enjoy working with 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals. I am enthusiastically kink-affirming, sex-positive, and Health at Every Size oriented in my work with clients and I work well with folks of all identities navigating substance use concerns, trauma, self-esteem, and depression.
As a relational therapist-in-training, Iām committed to understanding people within the context of their unique lived experiences, identities, and the systems that impact them. I follow anti-oppressive, feminist principles and believe in the importance of examining intersecting identities to understand you as a whole.
I will be joining Lamppost Wellness in January 2025.
